Our school Gala planning is underway. It is going to be a bit different to the previous years. A couple of the changes include not having the Monster Garage Sale and outsourcing some of the catering options as both of these areas use up a lot of staff hours that are valuable at the start of each year. This year we will be using the funds raised to pay for new sports uniforms which are well overdue for replacement. To help out, we will be asking for donated grocery items for our very popular grocery raffle. Senior students will also be given raffle books to take home to sell. We will hold a Gala assembly for students next week - letting them know how they can help out and what's going to be happening like the talent quest, bouncy castles and waffles and we will invite family members along to a planning meeting next Wednesday after school at 3:15 in the staffroom.
If you child is walking or riding to school could you please have a chat to them about crossing the roads safely, looking both ways and listening. There are a lot of busy intersections and roadways on the way to school and we only look after two of them. We do expect all students to access the patrolled crossings whether walking or biking.
We were notified yesterday that the Mair St - Te Kawa St/Rangitahi St intersection will be closed next Wednesday to Friday as part of a major pipe upgrade. A lot of our cars use this route each morning and afternoon. It is the road that heads towards the College if leaving our school and goes past the bowling club. A safe walking zone will be in place for students if they have to go that way.
Covid cases are on the rise in the school community. We would like to ask all families to be extra vigilant about sending students to school who are feeling slightly ill in the morning.
Yesterday in Room 3 we were looking at people who live in the bush as part of their topic study. They were presented with a technology challenge to create a bush hut in a limited amount of time, that was tall enough for a pair of scissors to stand in and lie down in, as well as being sturdy and moveable. There was a lot of engagement and effort put into their huts - 1st place was Meili, Khloe was 2nd and Tanna and Leonidas were 3rd equal.
Next Friday the 1st March is our Junior school swimming display. Please keep an eye out for information and times.
