We would like to say thanks to all of the parents who came along last Friday and supported the Middle Syndicate fundraising event. The time and effort that went into making the event a success was really appreciated. Thanks also to the students who came along and purchased some food. We would also like to thank all of our families for their cooperation and early collection of students from our school yesterday.

We would like to announce that after 25 years, Ms Mary Kenealy is retiring from teaching at our school. Mary is a well regarded teacher who has helped lay the foundation of learning for our new entrant students. Mrs Christine Melville is also retiring at the end of the year. She has taught our fabric and food technology classes to students across our district for 20+ years and leaves to spend more time with her family. Mrs Ginsberg has also resigned as teacher and team leader of the Upper Junior syndicate. She wants to spend more time with her young son. Formal farewells will occur at our end of the year events which you are welcome to attend. Miss Abby Murphy will take over the New Entrant room position in 2023, the other two positions are in the process of being filled. Other appointments include Miss Cunningham covering for Mrs Mahutonga's maternity leave, Miss Davies will join us from Tauranga Intermediate for Mrs Harnett's maternity leave and Miss Absalom returns for our yr 4/5 classroom next year.

We are demonstrate  the value of being trustworthy through making good choices for ourselves and others.

There is a very limited supply of Juicies, milk and water available at Athletics today.

South School Athletics is on today! The first event starts at 9.20am. Parents and whanau are welcome to come along and support our students throughout the day. Please see the timetable of the days events below. These are approximate times as some events may run longer than others. 

This year we are coming together as a school in colours. Classes have been put into 3 colours and students are asked to come dressed in their assigned colour and support their “team” throughout the day. At the end of the day we will have a “Colour Relay” with students from new entrant to year 8 racing together. Below are the assigned colours for your child/children's classes. 

Blue: Room 1, Room 4, Room 12 & 17, Room 10 & 11.

Yellow: Room 2, Room 5, Room 7, Room 9.

Green: Room 3, Room 6, Room 14, Room 8.

Room 16 can choose which colour they would like to come in.

 

We would like to recognise the following Senior students, Blair Edwards, Emily Purdie, James Follas and  Zoe Edwards.

Blair, Emily and Zoe have been taking part in the GATE Photography classes this year and have been given the opportunity to take up a scholarship (worth $600) with the Aotearoa Creative Series over the Summer holidays. Well done for taking on this exciting challenge and we look forward to seeing and hearing about your experiences learning more about photography. 

The Year 7 and 8 students take part in the Otago University Maths Problem Solving Challenge. Throughout the year they answer a series of increasingly difficult maths problems and James did so well he qualified for the ‘Final Challenge’ along with 990 other students around the country. Otago university awarded 53 prizes and James was one of these successful mathematicians. He received a distinction award and a $25 book voucher. 

Congratulations to you all. You have shown dedication and hard work and we are very proud of your achievements. 

Congratulation to the South School Stars who won the Midget A Grade final last night in Te Kuiti and to Ryder for being awarded the player of the match.

The South School Flames, coached by Scott Mouat, also won the B Grade final in the Year 3 & 4 age group. Ka rawe!
